A Few Good Men

Corruption in the military, in politics, in the corporate world have become commonplace so there’s no shock value in A Few Good Men and, indeed, we’ve come to the point that a few good men is about all we can expect. But playwright Aaron Sorkin has crafted a well-paced, well-written drama that captures your attention from beginning to end.

Dark Road

Set in Edinburgh (with dialect coach Eileen Barrett keeping the Scottish brogue rolling out), Dark Road premiered in 2013 and is classified as ‘tartan noir’.

Oh What a Beautiful Morning!

At the Russian Hall until July 22 and July 24-26, 2018
Fight With a Stick Performance (formerly Leaky Heaven Circus) is famous for genre-exploding theatre including Revolutions (in which the audience was seated on a revolve) and Cinerama (during which the tide unexpectedly came in on the audience). And now Oh What a Beautiful Morning! takes the 1955 movie musical Oklahoma! and deconstructs it.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella

At Theatre Under the Stars until August 18, 2018
Fairytale set design by Brian Bell, choreography by Nicol Spinola and musical direction by Brent Hughes (with a fifteen-piece orchestra under his baton) make this Cinderella a sweet treat under the stars.

It’s amazing, really, how well young playwright James Gordon King gets into the head of Brian (David Bloom), a middle-aged playwright who has pulled up stakes, moved out of the city to a small, waterfront community (sounds like Squamish) and is living out of boxes while he works on his latest play.
